MKH 800 Twin

 

The DSP800 plug-in is made specifically for processing the audio signal of the Sennheiser MKH 800 Twin microphone. The DSP800 will take the two channels out of the Sennheiser MKH 800 Twin and process them to give a mono signal with a controlable polar pattern between omnidirectional and figure-8 (bidirectional). The DSP800 plug-in also provides a stereo mode where its output is made of two back to back cardioid microphones.

The DSP800 plug-in is available in VST and Audio Unit format for Mac OS X.

Although initially inspired by and designed for the Sennheiser MKH 800 Twin microphone, the DSP800 plug-in can also be used with the Pearl ELM-A microphone.

The DSP800 plug-in is made with SonicBirth, an object-oriented programming environment for the creation of Audio Unit and VST plug-ins for Mac OS X. The Windows OS equivalent of SonicBirth would be SynthMaker.

Warning:
The SonicBirth 1.3.1b2 framework MUST BE INSTALLED for the DSP800 to work.

SonicBirth 1.3.1b2 is compatible with Mac OS 10.4.11, 10.5.8 and 10.6.2.

 

 

 

 

DSP800: Instructions

The DSP800 has two inputs, Front and Back, and two outputs. In normal mode, the mono signal will be outputted by the left channel only.

Polar Pattern Control
Controls the polar pattern of the MKH 800 Twin microphone between omnidirectionnal and figure-8, with a default value of 0.5 for a cardioid polar pattern.

Side Flip
Controls the side from which the microphone will operate: when OFF, it operates from the Front side, when ON (green) it operates from the Back side. Default to OFF.

Stereo Mode
When ON (green), this circuit bypasses the Polar Pattern and Side Flip controls to output a stereo signal made of two back to back cardiods. It's not the direct output from the microphone, but rather a resynthesis to maximize separation. Default to OFF.
